Enjoy a special informal cabaret-style evening featuring a fine jazz trio of clarinet, concert grand piano, and double bass! Relax at your own table while Haiduck and Heckendorn perform all-time favorite music from the Great American Songbook.

The program starts off with Haiduck improvising on “If I Were a Bell” from “Guys and Dolls” (Frank Loesser), joined by Heckendorn singing and playing Cole Porter’s “Night and Day.”  If you were at the Island Arts Andric Severance Jazz Trio concert last summer, you saw Neal Haiduck bring down the house as the guest clarinetist.

The program continues with tunes by Rogers and Hammerstein, George Gershwin, Johnny Mandel, Cy Coleman, Jerome Kern, Leonard Bernstein, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, and Burt Bacharach. And of course, the unofficial anthem of Vermont, “Moonlight in Vermont,” is given special treatment by these master musicians.

Haiduck and Heckendorn have performed and recorded together for many years in the New York City area. Clarinetist Neal Haiduck has played jazz and classical music in New York City, Montréal, London, Europe, South America, and Japan. He now makes his home in Burlington, where he makes the lively jazz scene.

Pianist David Heckendorn was the orchestrator for “Mr. Holland’s Opus.” His compositions have been performed in various American venues, including St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Birdland in New York City, and in Europe and East Europe. He lives in Ulster County, New York.

Haiduck and Heckendorn are joined by Art DeQuasie, accomplished jazz and classical bassist and long-time Director of Operations for the Vermont Youth Orchestra.
